Schedule your appointment today

I am once again making time available for Feng Shui appointments, real estate staging, space clearing and organizing appointments. If you have been putting off getting your life in order, now is the perfect time to contact me.

Picture perfect fall day

What an absolutely fabulous day. There won't be too many more of these and I am doing my best to enjoy the sunshine today. Fall is in the air though and the trees are starting to show us some color. This is a good time to get things in order for the unavoidable winter that is on it's way. Here is my short list of what should get done soon before we run out of nice days. Clear your front door area of leaves and cobwebs. I know what you are thinking, it looks cool for Halloween..... but it is bad Feng Shui. If you really want to wait then put it on the top of your list for November 1st. Put away all the "summer" items in the garage and yard. Water toys, life jackets, fishing poles, garden tools and yard decorations. You get the idea. Sweep the garage and get rid of anything that you have been meaning to toss. Get out the snowblower and make sure it runs. Find your shovels or buy a new one if you have to. They are out already and you can beat the rush and get one you like. Think about your Christmas decorations. Are your lights in a tangled up mess? If they are, then you are not reading my blog! See if they work and toss them if they don't. Take advantage of these last few nice days to get them hung. Take a few minutes to do some garden/yard/flower bed maintenance. With just a little effort now you won't have to look at all the brown dead foilage until the snow covers it up. Ok, this is enough chores for today. My next post will be about getting inside ready for winter. Enjoy the day.

A friend sent this to me and I just had to pass it on. Author unknown No virtue is attached to simply having been born in a different time. But it does point out how much so-called progress isn't. In the line at the store, the cashier told an older woman that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized to him and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back in my day." The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment." He was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day. Back then we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day. We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day. Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that old lady is right; we didn't have the green thing back in our day. Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then. We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pen s with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint. But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then? Please forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smartass young person. The Green Thing writer unknown

Feng Shui for Fall

We are rapidly making the transition from summer to autumn. While it is beautiful it can be a stressful time for some. We already had the threat of a hard freeze here and I was able to cover my flowers and vegetables to prolong the season. Since they are predicting 80 plus degrees this weekend, I think it was a good decision. One thing to remember about this time of year is that as your plants brown and die that you take care to remove them. It is never good Feng Shui to have dead plants around. It may also be a good time to bring out the fall wreath for your front door or the beautiful mums that do so well in this weather. Anything that you enjoy looking at that brings some energy to your life, front door and home is a good thing.

How are you doing with your Resolutions?

The holidays are over and hopefully things are settling back into a normal routine.

Did you make any resolutions for the New Year? Are you waiting for the Chinese New Year to do so?

If you did set some goals for 2011, are you sticking with it?

There is always a lot of fuss about this subject in December and early January and then it seems that the ball is dropped and people just let it go. We all have good intentions and that should be what counts BUT if you feel as though you have failed when you don't keep your resolutions or meet your goals then you have completely defeated the entire purpose.

Change does not have to be difficult. Sometimes slow and steady is better than all out.
